Dateline: 8th February, 2004 Johnny Guitar Update One of our New York Correspondents, Julie-Ann Marshall, has been in touch with the latest update on Johnny Guitar which begins previews on March 4th at the Century Center for the Performing Arts, Union Square, New York. We have already carried a brief outline of the show, based on the cult 1954 movie of the same name, which starred Joan Crawford, Mercedes McCambridge and Sterling Hayden. Steve Blanchard takes a break from Beauty and the Beast to pick up the guitar and play Johnny, a stranger with a past. He is joined by Judy McLane (Vienna) who is best known on Broadway for Chess, Kiss of the Spider Woman and Aspects of Love. Ann Crumb (Emma) was nominated for a Tony for her performance in Anna Karenina, and like McLane, also appeared in Chess and Aspects of Love. Robert Evan (Dancin' Kid) appeared on Broadway in Les Miserables, Jekyll & Hyde, and Dance of the Vampires. Rounding out the cast of Johnny Guitar are Ed Sala, David Sinkus, Rob Sapp and Jason Edwards. The stage version of Johnny Guitar features book by Nicholas van Hoogstraten, lyrics and music by Joel Higgins, and music by Martin Silvestri. Directed by Joel Higgins, the show officially opens off-Broadway on March 23rd. For more information check out the website www.JohnnyGuitarTheMusical.com Julie-Ann Marshall is following Johnny Guitar for us all the way to production. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
