BBC Schools' Joseph Contest Ends

A school choir contest, organised by the BBC alongside the reality casting show Any Dream Will Do, closed last week amid claims of cheating and confusion.

The idea was that schools could upload video footage of their school choir to a special website and visitors would rate each. The rating was done by clicking on a icon of Joseph's coat (icon 1 meant poor whilst icon 5 meant excellent) but, according to the BBC, some voters were clicking on all five icons to rate a choir as excellent, whilst others were deliberately rating other choirs very low to give their own a better chance of winning.

At one point the whole voting procedure was taken off-line because because of technical problems and the BBC also admitted that it was having to verify votes because it was "amazed by the high levels of rating and the lengths that people will take to improve their choir's ranking".

It actually extended the contest but insituted a system of having to register before voting.

The top twenty choirs will be announced on 31st May.
