Keswick Rep Programme

Keswick's Theatre by the Lake has announced its rep season for this year. It runs from Friday 27th May to Saturday 5th November and consists of six productions, three in the Studio and three in the Main House. Performances in the Main House start at 8.00 and in the Studio at 8.15.

The reason for the later than usual starts is because they give the tourists who form a large part of the audience the chance to come down from a day's hill walking, have a bath and a meal, and then go to the theatre.

Dead Funny
By Terry Johnson
Directed by Ian Forrest
The Dead Funny Society is a fan club dedicated to the great British comedians of the past. Richard is obsessed with comic routines, but for Eleanor it just isn't a laughing matter. She's more interested in how to get Richard to perform in the bedroom. Lisa has just had a baby, but Nick doesn't seem to be too happy about it...

Fri 29 July to Wed 2 November at 8.15pm. (Preview Thu 28 July)
A Number
By Caryl Churchill
Directed by Stefan Escreet
Theatre by the Lake offers a unique two-part evening that will peep behind the news headlines and consider the moral dilemmas of science. The first half is a performance of Caryl Churchill's A Number. An elderly man has a series of encounters with his numerous sons. They are seeking their identity, but are they distinct, or just one of a number? This clever, gripping play deals with the questions that concern every parent and every child and what might occur if human beings were cloned.
A Number is a play that you will want to discuss long after you have left the theatre, and so the second half of the evening aims to add to the debate. You will be invited back into the studio to hear rehearsed readings from tEXtPERIMENT. These will deal with the what-ifs and ethical dilemmas of science. There will then be an informal post-show discussion of the evening's work and subject matter.

Theatre by the Lake has also announced three other productions for the end of the year:
