The King's Theatre, Edinburgh

Edinburgh Hunt for Cinders and the Prince

Casting for the parts of Cinderella and Prince Charming in this year's panto at the King's Theatre, Edinbugh, will be by open audition. Paul Elliott, the director, will be auditioning hopefuls at the Festival Theatre in Nicholson Street on 4th and 5th July. Auditions for the Prince will take place between 10am and 1pm, and for Cinderella from 1pm to 4pm.

Those who audition must be able to sing, dance and act, and must also be Scottish. They will be expected to sing during the audition.

"It's important, said Elliott, "that Cinderella is not too small, at least 5ft 5in tall, blonde, feisty, and with a beautiful face. She must have a twinkle in her eye and be able to sing beautifully. She will probably be in her early twenties.

"For the prince I need a star to walk in there and light up the stage. In an ideal world he will be 6ft 2in with a beautiful body, have charisma, be able to sing and act and have a wonderful laid-back modern quality."

However would-be auditionees should not be afraid that this Pop Idol-style hunt will be an unpleasant experience. Elliott is not, he says a Simon Cowell: "Have fun, smile, don't be worried, you are amongst friends."

Cinderella, which runs from 7th December to 21st January, was the first show to be produced at the theatre when it opened in 1906.
