The musical Kinky Boots, which follows a journey from a shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan, is to start a new tour—at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate.

Composer and lyricist Cyndi Lauper said, “it’s been a wonderful adventure and a privilege for me to play a part in creating Kinky Boots. Everyone can relate to this universal story and I’m overwhelmed that people in the UK have embraced it with open arms. I’m thrilled that this fabulous show will be touring the country.”

Book writer Harvey Fierstein added, “the inspiring story of Kinky Boots will soon complete its full circle from Northampton to the silver screen to Broadway and London and now, at last, back home to Northampton as it goes on a UK tour. How often does that happen?”

The tour will open at Royal and Derngate from 19 September until 6 October. Dates already announced include Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Manchester Opera House, Edinburgh Playhouse, Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre, Stoke’s Regent Theatre and Bristol Hippodrome.

New dates include Venue Cymru, Llandudno (11 to 16 February 2019), New Theatre Oxford (18 to 23 February), Birmingham Hippodrome (11 to 23 March), Liverpool Empire (25 March to 6 April), His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (23 April to 4 May), Kings Theatre, Glasgow (6 to 18 May), Nottingham Theatre Royal (27 May to 8 June), Lyceum Sheffield (10 to 22 June) and Sunderland Empire (24 June to 6 July).

Casting and further dates are to be announced. The full tour dates are available at the Kinky Boots web site.
