Kismet Choreographer Quits

Olivier Award-winning Venezuelan choreographer Javier de Frutos has left the English National Opera production of Kismet because of "creative differences" between him and director Gary Griffin. A statement by ENO and de Frutos said, "By mutual agreement Javier de Frutos has withdrawn from English National Opera's production of Kismet as a result of creative differences." De Frutos' name and biography will be withdrawn from the programme.

ENO has not denied a claim in the Daily Mail that these differences finally culminated in de Frutos barring Griffin from dance rehearsals. According to one of the newspaper's source, "'There was a lot of doom and gloom, but now there isn't."

Nikki Woollaston has been brought in to complete the work and she will be credited with the "musical staging".

The opening night of the production which stars Faith Prince and Michael Ball will remain 27th June, with the first preview (25th) now cancelled, as the dress rehearsal has now been scheduled on that day instead of 22nd June.
