Cornwall-based theatre company Kneehigh has launched a Crowdfunder campaign to enable 300 people to see its new production 946 in its temporary Asylum theatre space at the Lost Gardens of Heligan this summer.

946 is a new stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's wartime novel The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, which the author has co-adapted with Kneehigh's joint artistic director Emma Rice. It will run at the Asylum from 25 July to 23 August 2015.

The Crowdfunder campaign aims to bring into the theatre those who cannot afford tickets or who feel they don't belong in a theatre. The company will work with community groups to find people who will benefit most, who will be invited to the Asylum as VIP guests with complementary drinks and a programme as well as a ticket for the show.

Kneehigh's target is £1,700 and the closing date for donations is 15 July. The campaign details and information on how to contribute can be found on the Crowdfunder web site.

The Asylum, Kneehigh's "beautiful and flexible nomadic structure", was launched in 2010 and this year spends its fifth season at the Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey in Cornwall.

It was recently announced that Emma Rice will leave Kneehigh in 2016 to take over as artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe in London.
