The Ellen Kent production of opera La Bohème comes to Manchester Opera House on Saturday November 12.
Puccini’s tragic tale of the doomed, consumptive Mimi and her love for a penniless writer is played out against a set that reflects the Bohemian art of the period and includes a brass band, snow effects—and Muzetta’s dog.
One of the most romantic operas ever written, it introduces the Russian soprano Ecaterina Danu as Mimi and stars Olga Perrier, the international French soprano as Musetta.
Set in Paris, it focuses on the love between seamstress Mimi and poet Rodolfo.
After falling in love instantly, Rodolfo later leaves Mimi due to her flirtatious behaviour.
Kent said, “the scene when Mimi and Rodolfo meet and she sings 'They Call Me Mimi' always makes me cry. It’s a lovely piece of music.”
