Danny L Rue in costume

La Rue Suffers Stroke

Female impersonator Danny La Ruse has suffered a stroke on arrival back in England from a holiday in Spain. He is understood not to have suffered any paralysis but has cancelled all engagements for the next six months on doctor's orders.

La Rue, who is now 78, gained fame as a cabaret star and for many years has appeared in panto as the dame, most recently as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at Croydon's Ashcroft Theatre. He played Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly in Birmingham in 1982 in a production which later transferred to the Prince of Wales Theatre. He was awarded the OBE in 1982.
