Les Mis Is Top Musical

According to a poll of listeners to BBC Radio 2, the top musical of all time is Les Misérables.

Over 400,000 people voted in a poll which lasted for six months. There were fifty shows nominated. The result was announced by Elaine Paige on her Radio 2 show.

Les Mis gained 40% of the vote, a result about which producer Cameron Mackintosh said he was "completely knocked out".

The top ten were:

1. Les Miserables
2. The Phantom of the Opera
3. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
4. The King and I
5. Sunset Boulevard
6. Evita
7. Chess
8. The Rocky Horror Show
9. Follies
10. Hair
