On Friday evening, artistic director Chris Honer and associate director Roger Haines announced the details of the new season for the Library Theatre to run from September 2007 to March 2008, featuring three great modern plays and a revival of one of the theatre's most successful ever Christmas shows. In September, the season will open with Noël Coward's Private Lives directed by Chris Honer, who said he will be taking a fresh look at the play because they are good at "blowing the cobwebs off plays that may have been seen in a particular way for too long". Following this, in October, Roger Haines will direct Brian Friel's Faith Healer, following the theatre's previous productions of Friel's Translations in September 2003 and Dancing at Lughnasa two years later. Haines will also be directing the Christmas show, which is revival of his 2002 production of Philippa Pearce's novel Tom's Midnight Garden, adapted by David Wood. The original production won the TMA award for best production for children and young people, and the revival will coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the novel's first publication. The season ends with the third modern classic, Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot, in February 2008, which has not been seen on the Library Theatre stage since 1971. There will be return visits to the Library by comedy duo Lip ServiceMaggie Fox and Sue Rydingwith their 007 spoof Jane Bond and from Rani Moorthy with her new play consisting of three monologues that examine issues of colour and skin pigmentation, Shades of Brown. As we have previously reported, the Library will host a new festival in January 2008 showcasing some of the best new work seen in smaller venues over the previous year. Also, Manchester Arts Education Initiative will present a festival of performances following workshops with schoolchildren in Manchester and Rochdale, Huddersfield-based Faulty Optic and Opera North Projects will present Dead Wedding devised by composer Mira Calix using puppetry, film and laptop imagery, the Library Theatre Companys norfox Young Peoples Theatre Company will present an adaptation of Troilus and Cressida, Youth Music Theatre: UK will perform Jeni Toksvig's adaptation of Mort by Terry Pratchett and Manchester community theatre group MaD Theatre Company will present another brand-new play Shes Just Nipped Out For Fags.
