Olivier Awards nominations
The following nominations for the 1999 Olivier Awards have been announced. The winners will be announced at a lunchtime ceremony, hosted by Clive Anderson, at the National Theatre on Friday 12th February. The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC2 at 7.30 on Monday 15th February.

Southern Arts 1999 funding
Southern Arts has announced its funding plans for the coming financial year:
- 11.5% rise for Salisbury Playhouse (to £362,000)
- 10% rise for the Haymarket, Basingstoke, to £99,000
- 5% rise of Nuffield, Southampton, to £360,000
- £52,000 for the Watermill, Bagnor
Belfast Civic to go dark?
Belfast's Civic Arts Theatre will probably have to go dark after Belfast City Council refused to provide uplift funds for this financial year or any funding at all for next year.
The theatre is also threatening legal action against the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, claiming that part of its annual grant has not been received.
