Irish award for Shaw

Irish-born Fiona Shaw was named Best Actress in Irish Theatre Awards in Dublin for her performance in the Abbey Theatre's production of Medea, currently playing in the West End.

Theatre 2001 this week

Theatre 2001 is "the first ever cross- industry Conference, jointly organised by the Society of London Theatre, Theatrical Management Association and Independent Theatre Council," and it aims to "bring together all those working in the business to examine the key issues that are affecting it today."

The conference will be held at One Great George Street, London SW1, the Civil Engineers Building just off Parliament Square, from 1st to 3rd March, and will focus on five key areas: Creativity, Buildings and Spaces, Tomorrow's Cultural Leaders, Theatre in its Social Context and Audiences. The conference will be opened by Melvyn Bragg, with a keynote address from Richard Eyre, and one of the speakers will be Chris Smith, Secretary of State at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
