New job for Allen?

It is rumoured that Mary Allen, formerly of ACE, who has just left her post at the ROH, is in the running for the job of chief executive of the South Bank Centre, made vacanr with the move of Nicholas Snowman to Glyndebourne.

No Autumn season for D'oyly Carte

D'Oyly Carte has cancelled its plans for an Autumn season this year because of lack of funds. The company has asked for stabilisation funding from ACE but a decision has still not been made, having been deferred repeatedly. According to an ACE spokesperson there is little chance of any money this year. The company's deficit is currently £1.25m.

King's Head to be reprieved?

It is reported that London Borough Grants is considering reinstating the £35,000 grant to the King's Head Theatre for a period of six months.

Francis Durbridge dies

Playwright Frances Durbridge, creator of Paul Temple and author of many popular mystery plays, many of them favourites of amateur companies, has died, aged 85.
