New Top Man at ATG

The Ambassador Theatre Group has appointed their former freelance artistic consultant for regional theatres, Robert Cogo-Fawcett, as director of programme planning. He will be in charge of programming for the Albery, the Duke of York's, the Comedy, the Phoenix, the Piccadilly, the Whithall and Wyndham's.

MU BBS Dropped

The Musicians' Union had dropped its discussion forum from its Website because of a number of "inaccurate and defamatory" statements which appeared on it.

In the last few weeks British ISP Demon has reached an out of court settlement in a defamation case over statements which appeared in one of the newsgroups carried by the ISP. This has made other ISPs and organisations which have bulletin board systems rather wary.

Subtitles Are Preferable to Loops, RNID says

A survey for the Royal National Institute for the Deaf has shown that deaf people prefer subtitles rather than signed performances or induction loops. Induction loops, respondents claimed, are plagued with problems, and only around 50,000 of the estimated 8.7 million deaf people in the UK use British Sign Language.

West End Pensions Deal

The Society of London Theatre and Equity have agreed a pension scheme for West End performers and crew. The new scheme will start with people connected with shows which begin after today (24th April), and those working in existing shows sill be able to join from January 2001.

Robinson to stand down

Tony Robinson, for six years joint vice-president of Equity, has announced that he will not stand again as a councillor in June's elections.
