Billingham Forum at risk

Current redevlopment plans for the town centre of Billingham in Cleveland would lead to the demolition of the Billingham Forum theatre and its replacement by a supermarket and sports and leisure complex. The council has promised full consultation with local people before a final decision is taken.

RSAMD appoint Dench

Dame Judi Dench has been appointed as the President of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

ATG takes over Richmond

The Ambassador Theatre Group has taken over the Richmond Theatre after reaching agreement on the repayment of the theatre's debts which amount to around 4m. ATG will pay 1m.

The acquisition of the Richmond Theatre brings the group's total number of theatres to 16, seven in the regions and nine in the West End.

Drama education and training news

The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts has become a member of the Conference of Drama Schools. The CDS now has 18 members.

East 15 drama school, which has been in financial trouble for some time, has merged with the University of Essex in a deal worth 1.3m.
