Putting the Lid on the Globe Designer William Dudley is to roof in Shakespeare's Globe for its production of Titus Andronicus. He aims to create a dark and funereal setting for Shakespeare's blackest play. This "lid" is inspired by the velarium, a netting and canvas sunshade used in the Colosseum in Rome. Titus will be played by Douglas Hodge, most recently seen in the West End as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, for which he was Olivier-nominated. He also directed the touring revival of Philip King's See How They Run. The production, directed by Lucy Bailey, is in repertory at the Globe from 20th May to 6th October. It forms part of the Edges of Rome season which also includes Coriolanus, Antony and Cleopatra and The Comedy of Errors, Dominic Dromgoole's first as the theatre's artistic director.
