Lilies on the Land on Tour

Lilies on the Land is a play based on over 150 letters received by theatre company the Lions part from women who served in the Women's Land Army. The play weaves the extraordinary stories of four individual Land Girls and their respective experiences during World War 2, through an English agricultural year.

The play sustains the colloquialism, style and quality of the individual writing and anecdotes we received: nothing is fiction. The remarkable vivacity, courage, humour, pain and outrage in the many diverse recollections we received are all portrayed in the play.

Overalls full of mice, toilet rolls from the sky, swede bashing and five inch baths, Lilies on the Land recounts the hardships and joys of this unique time for England's women, through energetic narrative and much loved songs of the time.
