Glorious: Maureen Lipman returns to Birmingham REP

Maureen Lipman is to join James Dreyfus in Lindsay Posner’s new production of Mary Chase’s comedy Harvey at Birmingham REP.

She will play Veta who tries to get her brother Elwood P Dowd, played by Dreyfus, committed rather than risk the family’s reputation.

In the play Elwood P Dowd has only one character flaw: an unwavering friendship with a six-foot tall, invisible rabbit named Harvey. Veta takes him to see a psychiatrist. But when the doctor mistakenly commits Veta instead of her brother, it sets off a whirlwind of confusion and chaos as everyone tries to catch a man and his invisible rabbit.

Maureen Lipman previously appeared at the REP in Glorious! by Peter Quilter and Oliver Cotton’s Daytona. In 2013 she directed and starred in Barefoot in the Park on a UK tour.

The 2015 national tour of Harvey is produced by Don Gregory in association with Birmingham REP, with Julian Stoneman Associates and Paul Tyrer and Jamie Clark for The Booking Office.

Harvey opens at Birmingham REP from Friday 6 February until Saturday 21 February.
