Live Nation Sale Confirmed It was confimed yesterday that Live Nation and the Ambassador Theatre Group have agreed the sale of Live Nation's theatre arm for around £90m, as predicted in our news story of 1st November. ATG's joint CEO Howard Panter said, "Live Nation Theatres is a very successful company with first class staff and significant customer loyalty. It is also blessed with some of the worlds best producers and productions. Our aim is to help maintain the shows and theatres as vibrant successes. It will be a privilege to operate this additional group of historic venues." The theatres involved in the sale are the Edinburgh Playhouse; the Auditorium, Grimsby; Liverpool Empire; Bristol Hippodrome; The Palace Theatre and The Opera House, Manchester; Southport Theatre; Sunderland Empire; Grand Opera House, York; Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham; Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone; the New Theatre and the Old Fire Station, Oxford and the Princess Theatre, Torquay as well as two London theatres, the Lyceum and Apollo Victoria. Next year ATG will add the new Aylesbury Waterside Theatre to its portfolio, bringing its total number of theatres to forty. Coinciding with the purchase, ATG has appointed a new Executuve Chairman, former Director General of the BBC Greg Dyke, who said, "I am delighted to be joining ATG as Executive Chairman. Ive known the group for many years and seen it grow from its early years in Woking to become one of the biggest theatre operators in the UK. ATG is a great British success story and the acquisition of the Live Nation Theatres will make the group even more successful and Im looking forward to being part of its future." In addition to the theatres, ATG, which is already a producer in its own right and owner of Sonia Friedman Productions, will also take over Live Nation's productions, including panto producers First Family Entertainment.
