Liverpool Cuts 20% Liverpool City Council is proposing a 20% cut in its arts budget for the coming year, which will see the grant to the Everyman and Playhouse reduced by £170,000. Executive director Deborah Aydon said, "The Council has had a ferociously difficult job and we appreciate their openness and integrity during this process. Clearly the proposed cut to the cultural organisations is significant, coming as it does on top of reduced investment by the Arts Council and other bodies. The success, ambition and profile of Liverpools culture has had a huge positive impact on the city in recent years and it is one of our greatest strengths. "We are hard at work, in collaboration with colleagues in the cultural and other sectors, to minimise the financial impact so we can help Liverpool to stay strong through these tough times. "We are passionate about our responsibility to education and community groups and will continue to produce theatre of international quality that the people of Liverpool can be proud of." The cuts will also see the cancellation of the 88th annual Performing Arts Festival which should have taken place in February, 2012, and the annual Lord Mayor's Parade in June. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is to lose £284,000. No decision has yet been taken about "grassroots" arts organisations. The city will still spend £7m on arts and culture. The proposals will go before the full council on 2nd March.
