Liza Goddard plays a passionate, doting mother who finds it hard to accept that her son is leaving home to get married in Kay Mellor’s romantic comedy A Passionate Woman which opens at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham before a short tour.
On the morning of her son’s wedding, Betty retreats to her attic where she relives her long-lost youth and the love affair she had in the 1960s. Surrounded by her memories and ghosts from her past, Betty finds herself torn between a husband she never loved, a son about to leave and the manwith whom she shared a passionate affair.
Everyman creative director Paul Milton directs. He said, “A Passionate Woman is a real feel-good play. It has a Shirley Valentine flavour to it: lots of romance, comedy and charm. It’s set in the present day but has flashbacks to the 1960s. It’s the perfect play for a good night out.”
The cast also comprises Antony Eden, Russell Dixon and Hasan Dixon. Designer is Michael Holt.
A Passionate Woman runs at the Everyman Theatre from Friday 17 February until Saturday 25 February. It then tours to Exeter, Malvern, Guildford, Sheffield, Northampton and Leeds.
