New Funding for balletLORENT

Over the next few months, Newcastle-based balletLORENT will complete a national tour of their family show, Angelmoth, as well as bringing audiences a new production, Designer Body, which is to premiere at The Sage Gateshead in January 2008, thanks to funding from Arts Council England .

Alison Clark-Jenkins, Director, Arts and Development at Arts Council England, North East says, "We’re delighted that our funding will enable such high quality work to take place. Angelmoth which so thrilled audiences in the North East will now get the chance to fly the flag for the North East’s world-class work across the country, while in this region we have a whole new production to enjoy in Designer Body."

Designer Body will be the company’s most epic production to date and will be performed by seven dancers, each on one metre wide revolving turntables. The production will be a celebration of the aesthetic and sculptural quality of the human form and the manipulation of it through choreography and fashion. Designer Body will be an accessible yet highly sophisticated way to experience dance aiming to take dance out of the theatre and visual art out of the gallery.

Angelmoth is the company’s first production aimed at a family audience and premiered in Dance City in Newcastle in December 2006. balletLORENT will embark on a six week UK tour of Angelmoth starting in November 2007, visiting the Grand, Theatre (Blackpool), DanceXchange (Birmingham), the New Theatre (Hull), Malvern Theatres, the Carriage Works (Leeds), The Lowry (Salford) and Sadlers Wells (London).

balletLORENT have been awarded £38,500 for the creation of Designer Body and £75,181 to tour Angelmoth by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
