Lost Musicals at Sadler's Wells

Lost Musicals, a series of semi-staged performances of little-known musicals, returns to the Sadler's Wells Lilian Baylis Theatre in March, May and July, and includes two premieres: the UK premiere of a Cole Porter show and the theatrical premire of a Sondheim piece.

First created in 1989 by Ian Marshall Fisher, the series has rediscovered around seventy musicals which have been forgotten over the years.

On 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th March, the season opens with Fanny (music and lyrics by Harold Rome, book by Joshua Logan who wrote South Pacific).

It is followed on 22nd and 29th May, and 5th and 12th June by Cole Porter's Silk Stockings with book by George S Kaufman, Leueen MacGrath and Abe Burrows. Based on the film Ninotchka, it was Porter's last work. It had a successful run on Broadway in 1957 and was made into a film starring Fred Astaire, Cyd Charrise and Peter Lorre, but has never had a stage production in this country.

3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th July sees the theatrical premiere of Evening Primrose, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Goldman (Follies, The Lion in Winter). It was written for television in 1967 and starred Anthony Perkins, but has never had a theatrical production.
