La Bohème (Opera North)

Lowry New Season

The Lowry in Salford continues its tenth anniversary season this summer with a varied programme that has already been partially announced.

Details have already been released about the Lowry's own Christmas production of Peter Pan together with Library Theatre Company's A Christmas Carol, a brief visit from the new touring production of Les Misérables in August and Jonathan Harvey's compilation of the highlights of Manchester's favourite soap live on stage in 50 Years of Coronation Street Abridged—Live!, also in August.

Other musicals stopping off at the Salford venue include two Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber shows Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Evita plus Britain's Got Bhangra, classic 70s backstage musical A Chorus Line and 70s reggae in Perry Henzell's The Harder They Come.

There will be visits from leading theatre companies including Northern Broadsides with its touring production of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales and National Theatre with Alan Bennett's latest play The Habit of Art. The Studio programme will include Kolective Theatre UK's The Orchard based on Chekhov, Ernest and the Pale Moon from Les Enfants Terribles, Ad Infinitum's one-man The Odyssey, Milan Govedarica's Me As A Penguin, Dolce Via from Take The Space and a couple of productions from Salford-based Mediamedea.

The opera and ballet programmes include return visits from Opera North with Puccini's La Bohème, Dvorák’s Rusalka and Donizetti's Maria Stuarda and Birmingham Royal Ballet with a combination of MacMillan's choreography and Prokofiev's music in Romeo and Juliet.

Children's theatre productions include Teatro Kismet's The Mermaid Princess, TV favourite Peppa Pig's Party, Alice in Wonderland from Uncontained Arts, Penguin from Long Nose Puppets and Small Worlds from Slung Low.
