Liverpool Capital of Culture Programme The Liverpool Culture Company has just announced its programme for its time as the European Capital of Culture in 2008. Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse teams up with Hampstead Theatre to present a new version of Chekhov's great play moved to Liverpool in 1946 with Three Sisters on Hope Street by Diane Samuels and Tracy-Ann Oberman. There will be a newly-commissioned piece Anima from Liverpool-based physical performance group Momentum. One Step Forward, One Step Back is a new site-specific work specially created for Liverpools Anglican Cathedral inspired by Dantes Divine Comedy. George Benjamins Into the Little Hill is a political updating of the Pied Piper story with a libretto by playwright Martin Crimp. Major dance festival British Dance: Edition will take place in Liverpool for the first time with performances in various venues, and the city will also host the Shakespeare Youth Festival. Akram Khan again joins forces with composer and producer Nitin Sawney for a new group choreography piece Bahok. The People Show will present a promenade performance outside and inside the Palm House at Sefton Park inspired by Strindberg's The Ghost Sonata. Shakespeare 24 invites young people from around the world to participate in a 24-hour event on Shakespeare's birthday with productions at 7pm across all time zones. Ken Dodd will present a celebration of the great comedians that have come out of Liverpool over the city's history at St George's Hall. An Audience with Bill Shankly is a new piece of interactive multimedia documentary theatre about the legendary Liverpool football manager, using digital recording technology. Spike Theatre presents Alice in Wonderland in some of Merseysides lesser-known parks. Once Upon a Time at the Adelphi is a new musical comedy that takes an irreverent but affectionate look at one of Liverpools iconic buildings. Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse present the world première of Erics The Musical about the notorious Liverpool punk club.
