400 Years of Macbeth

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of what is believed to be the first performance of Macbeth at Hampton Court Palace, the Oxford Shakespeare Company will present an all-male production with a cast of eighteen at Hampton Court from 4th to 7th August.

It is a semi-revival of last year's production, re-staged to suit Hampton Court, and will be directed by Chris Pickles.

A statement from the company says, "We are extremely proud to have been invited to stage Macbeth in the Great Hall of Hampton Court Palace to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first ever performance in 1606 for James I.

"Based on last year's intensely atmospheric production in Oxford and Kew Gardens, an eighteen strong ensemble will perform Shakespeare’s masterful tragedy in this outstanding historic venue."

The proeduction will play at Hampton Court from 4th to 7th August and then moves to Lincoln's Inn from 8th to 19th.
