Derby-based Maison Foo is to take A Thing Mislaid, a play inspired by migration, journeys and friendship, to audiences across the Midlands.

The show “celebrates and questions the idea of what it means to leave your birthplace in search of a place to call home once more” and uses “Foo’s trademark style of humour, clowning and physical theatre mixed with exciting new experiments in miniature puppetry and live camera to create epic cinematic moments live on stage”.

Maison Foo has joined forces with Derby Theatre, Derby Refugee Advice Centre (DRAC) and Journeys Festival International to identify ways to support refugees and those seeking asylum.

Beth Sheldon, co-director of A Thing Mislaid, said, “we’re making our show as accessible as possible. This includes a welcome message on our flyers in Arabic, Kurdish and Farsi and a captioned version of the show with Arabic subtitles as well as English.

“Developing our refugee friends scheme alongside our work is such an important part of this project. I can’t begin to put into words the impact meeting and working with the groups has had on us as artists.

“We hope we can begin to make a real difference during this tour for refugees and those currently seeking asylum which we can continue to grow and build on with many more venues in the future.”

A Thing Mislaid will tour to Deda Derby on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 September; mac Birmingham on Wednesday 10 October; Lincoln Drill Hall on Thursday 11 October; Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton on Wednesday 17 October; Brewhouse Arts Centre, Burton-on-Trent on Thursday 18 October; Lakeside Arts, Nottingham on Saturday 20 October; and Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester on Sunday 21 October.
