Vanishing Point Tour Maxwell Play

Glasgow-based Vanishing Point begin a national tour this week with a production of Douglas Maxwell's Mancub. Directed by Matthew Lenton, set and lighting by Kai Fischer and costume designed by Becky Minto, Mancub is a modern day look at the struggles of Paul, a teenage boy who is trying to grow up. Trying to get his Dad off his back and his Mum out of his face. Trying to work out what girls are all about. Trying to catch up on the work he hasn't done. Trying to stay out of trouble. But strange things keep happening, and they're getting stranger every day. Reality seems to be shifting. People are looking at him in a different way.

Does Paul turn into animals? Or does he only think he does?

Douglas Maxwell is the author of Decky Does a Bronco and Helmet, and his latest play, If Destroyed True, is part of the Paines Plough This Other England season at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The production opens at the Traverse, Edinburgh, on 5th until 7th May, and then goes on to Eden Court Theatre, Inverness (10th May); The Palace Theatre, Kilmarnock (13th May); MacRobert, Stirling (17th May); Melton Theatre, Leicester (19th May) Tron Theatre, Glasgow (25th to 28th May) and the Soho Theatre, London (31st May to 18th June).
