Mandela Trilogy from Wales Millennium Centre and Cape Town Opera, which had its European première at WMC in 2012, will return for a UK tour beginning in Cardiff in August.

The tribute to the South African revolutionary and President, written and directed by Michael Williams with music by Peter Louis van Dijk, is in three parts with a cast and orchestra of more than 60 South African performers.

The music uses different styles to match the different parts of Mandela's story, from the jazz and swing of Sophiatown to Xhosa folk music, framed by a contemporary opera musical style.

The tour will open at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from 24 to 27 August 2016, before travelling to the Royal Festival Hall from 31 August to 3 September, Mayflower Theatre in Southampton from 7 to 10 September, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin from 14 to 17 September, Birmingham Hippodrome from 20 to 21 September and The Lowry in Salford from 23 to 24 September.
