Marc Bolan musical heads for Billingham

20th Century Boy

20th Century Boy, the musical inspired by the life of rock legend Marc Bolan, is coming to Billingham Forum as part of a 27-venue national tour, commemorating the 40th anniversary of his death. Opening in Guildford on 8 March, the show reaches the Teesside venue on 3 April and runs until 7 April.

The show features more than 20 of Marc Bolan and T.Rex’s best-known hits, including "Get It On", "Ride a White Swan", "Metal Guru", "I Love to Boogie" and "20th Century Boy". It has a new script by Nicky Graham and Colin Giffin and is directed by John Maher it is produced by Great Brit Productions.

George Maguire plays Marc Bolan, having previously played the part at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and New Wolsey, Ipswich.

In 2015, he received the Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Dave Davies in Sunny Afternoon at the Harold Pinter Theatre (and Hampstead Theatre). His other stage credits include Lift at Soho Theatre, Hair in Munich, Thrill Me at the Charing Cross Theatre, Fame at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Bank at the King’s Head Theatre, Rent on European Tour, Tonight’s the Night on UK tour, The Gate Escape on UK tour, Sixteen on UK tour, Quadrophenia at the Nuffield Theatre and Oliver at the London Palladium.
