Dateline: 21st April, 2002 Maria Björnson Set and costume designer Maria Björnson died suddenly on Friday, 13th December. Although possibly best known to the theatre community as the award-winning designer of Phantom of the Opera, her wider theatre work include designs for the RSC (Hamlet, The Tempest, Camille, Measure for Measure and A Midsummer's Night Dream), Chiochester Festival Theatre (The Cherry Orchard) and the Old Vic (The Lonely Road). Other musicals credits include the London and Broadway productions of Aspects of Love and Follies at the Shaftesbury Theatre. She also had a big reputation as an opera designer,:
Her awards include two Tonys, two Drama Desk awards, two Drama Magazine awards and the silver medal at the Prague Bienniale. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
