McAveety Sacked The Scottish Parliament's Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Frank McAveety, has been sacked by First Minister Jack McConnell in a reshuffle of his cabinet. A spokeswoman said, "He has been asked to stand down by the first minister." Mr McAveety was at the centre of the row over the sacking of the Scottish opera chorus and, in June, misled parliament when he arrived late for question time, where he was supposed to answer the first and third questions, claiming to have been at a Scottish Arts Council function when he had been in the parliament canteen having lunch. He was spoken to by the First Minister and apologied to parliament. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
