The Weir at Sherman Theatre

The new season at Cardiff's Sherman Theatre features a revival of Conor McPherson's darkly comic storytelling play set in an Irish pub, The Weir, in a co-production with Bristol's Tobacco Factory Theatres.

The Weir will be directed by Rachel O'Riordan, returning to the Sherman after her successful productions there of Iphigenia in Splott and Bird.

Sticking with the pub theme, A Play, A Pie and A Pint returns in collaboration with Òran Mòr, this year with a script by Kelly Jones directed by Sherman's Associate Artist Kenny Miller, plus Welsh writer Alan Harris's new piece Love, Lies and Taxidermy will be presented in a co-production with Paines Plough and Theatr Clwyd as part of a UK tour.

This year's main Christmas production will be The Borrowers directed by Amy Leach and the production for 3- to 6-year-olds will be The Emperor’s New Clothes / Dillad Newydd yr Ymerawdwr by Hans Christian Andersen, co-produced with Theatr Iolo.

The studio season will include Scorch from Prime Cut Productions, Cargo from Metal Rabbit, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Family written and performed by RWCMD graduate Ben Norris and the Theatre Centre's Layla's Room.

In partnership with Theatr Iolo and Platfform, there will be an evening of new writing, TAITH, in which three new 10-minute scripts for young people will be performed followed by a post-show talk with the writers.

The Sherman is also offering an opportunity through the JMK Assistant Director scheme, for members of the JMK Directors Group (open to anyone) to apply to become Assistant Director for The Weir.
