Actor Michael Sheard has died of cancer at his home on the Isle of Wight at the age of 65. He was born in Aberdeen and studied at RADA before embarking on a TV and film career. He made a series of appearances in Doctor Who over a period of twenty years and was famously strangled to death by Darth Vader in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, but he is probably best remebered in the UK for his long-running role as the toupe-wearing bully of a teacher Mr Bronson in Grange Hill from 1985 to 1989. He made over forty feature films, ranging from Holiday on the Buses through Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (where he played Hitler, a part he played five times altogether) to All Quiet on the Western Front. His many TV appreances include Blake's 7, The Darling Buds of May, The New Avengers, Coronation Street and Caught on a Train where he appeared alongside Dame Peggy Ashcroft. He always said that his favourite role was in Escape to Athena with Roger Moore and that his worst ever perfromance as a Georing's double in 'Allo! 'Allo! Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
