Submissions are now open for China Plate’s First Bite Festival 2017 which supports, commissions and showcases new work from the Midlands.

Regional theatre companies will be able to show work in progress, test new material and be given feedback to help them develop their shows.

For the first time, the festival will take place across three venues: Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester on 25 March, Derby Theatre on 7 April and mac Birmingham on 22 April.

Three pieces will be commissioned and will be guaranteed slots at Bite Size Festival at Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry in October 2017.

Previous shows commissioned from the First Bite Festival include Caroline Horton's Olivier Award-nominated You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy, which has toured since 2010 and been seen by more than 10,000 people, Our Fathers by Babakas, which was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013, and The Road to Huntsville by Stephanie Ridings which she presented at Edinburgh in 2016.

Details about how to apply for the festival can be found at the China Plate Theatre web site.
