Molly Weir

Molly Weir (1920 - 2004)

Actress and comedienne Molly Weir has died at the age of 84.

She began her working life as a shorthand typist in her home city of Glasgow and came to fame as Tattie Macintosh in what was probably the best loved wartime radio show, ITMA (It's That Man Again), which starred Tommy Handley. She appeared as Ivy McTweed in The McFlannels but the post-War radio programme she was most associated was Life with the Lyons, which starred Bebe Daniels and Ben Lyon, moving to TV when the programme did.

Today she is best known for her appearances in the children's TV programme Rentaghost which she joined - as Hazel McWitch - in 1976, and stayed until it finished in 1984. She appeared in Dr Finlay's Casebook (1964 and 1966), Tales from the Crypt and Bless This House. Her last TV appearance was in Flowers of the Forest (1996).

Her film career included small parts (she would have made a joke about that comment: she was only 4 ft 10!) in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969), Carry on Regardless (1961), Hands of the Ripper (1971) and One of our Dinosaurs is Missing (1976).
