Macbeth on film directed by Kit Monkman
Drama Online - Shakespeare Collections

A new film of Macbeth becomes available on the 23 April.

Produced by Goldfinch Studios, it re-imagines Shakespeare's play with Mark Rowley in the title role, directed by Kit Monkman.

The film is shot on green screen and uses computer modelling. Monkman said, “Macbeth is a play that’s fascinated by interiority and imagination and Shakespeare’s storytelling is far from naturalistic so this seemed like an ideal opportunity to explore a more abstract theatrical approach to the screen.”

Macbeth can be streamed via iTunes, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Sky Store, and Vubiquity from 23 April.

Two new Shakespeare Collections are now also available from Drama Online.

Shakespeare’s Globe on Screen 2 is made up of three films of productions from 2015: Measure for Measure, Richard II and The Merchant of Venice and the first production from the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, The Duchess of Malfi (2014)

A further three films will be added to the collection in October and another two during next year.

In Shakespeare’s Heroes and Villains, writer, director and actor Steven Berkoff explores some of Shakespeare's most enduring heroes including Henry V, Coriolanus and Oberon, and darkest villains including Iago, the Macbeths, Shylock and Richard III.

These two join Drama Online's existing Shakespeare collections of filmed live productions and instructional videos, as well as series of works by other writers.
