Dateline: 15th October, 2004
Murderous Instincts Closes Murderous Instincts, originally publicised as "The Salsa Musical" and then rebadged as "The musical to die for" (because, lead Nichola McAuliffe explained, "the cast can't do salsa") has closed. It opened at the Savoy on 7th October and closed on 16th after poor reviews, thus fulfilling McAuliffe's prophesy, "It'll be over by Christmas". Written by Cinda Fox, heiress to the Firestone fortune, produced by her husband Manny, and costing a reported £2m, it has had three directors and two "artistic advisors", and innumerable other changes in the team. Two of the directors were sacked (by Manny Fox) - Gregory Thompson and Bob Carlton - and the third, Michael Rooney (son of Micky Rooney) had his request for a work permit turned down and, for a time, gave his directorial instructions by phone from Paris. Then Murray Melvin and Syd Ralph were appointed as "artistic advisors" in place of a director. Two weeks of previews were cancelled. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
