How to Breathe: a play about immigrant identity

Nottingham-based writer and actor Murfaro Makubika is to present at Nottingham Playhouse his monologue How to Breathe.

The play features Joseph Tambo who three years previously left Zimbabwe with his dream of a better life. Now he is off to fight for a country that questions whether he even belongs in it.

Murfaro Makubika said, “it's a thrill and a privilege to have this work on at Nottingham Playhouse.

"How to Breathe is a play about immigrant identity. It’s a story about a Zimbabwean national, a soldier in the British army on the night before his deployment. It’s an intimate confession about home, love, responsibility and society.”

How to Breathe will be directed by Esther Richardson and designed by Sara Perks. Sound designer is Adam P McCready. It runs in the Neville Studio at Nottingham Playhouse from Tuesday until Saturday, 17 to 21 February.
