Musical Futures at Greenwich

Greenwich Theatre's sixth Musical Futures season, in which the theatre showcases new musicals which are still in development, runs from 24th to 26th May. This year nine shows will be showcased, with a thirty minute extract from each.

Mendoza

Sephardi-Jewish prizefighter, Daniel Mendoza, rises defiantly from the slums of 18th century London to become the Muhammad Ali of his day. Courted by royalty, he becomes seduced by the high-life, and suffers a swift and ignoble fall at the hands of his enemies, before ultimately finding redemption through love.

Challenged to journey around the pond, Phileas Frog and Pasper Toad embark on a thrilling musical adventure, encountering a beautiful frog princess, a sneaky snake-in-the-grass, a horribly hungry pike and a colourful cast of creatures. Fifteen year old orphan Rachel, who is dying of HIV/AIDS, struggles to care for her young siblings, two of whom die from the disease. Rachel is forced into prostitution and becomes pregnant. When Rachel dies, her young brother, Francis, takes her baby, praying they will live to see "one more sunrise".
