NE Choreographer Honoured

Liv Lorent

Newcastle-based choreographer Liv Lorent has been awarded the MBE for services to dance in the New Year Honours List.

Lorent, who founded balletLORENT in 1993, became resident choreographer at Dance City in Newcastle, where the company is still based, in 1996. She won the Jerwood Choreography Award 2001, The Arts Foundation Choreography Award 2005 and Artist of The Year at the 2008 Journal (Newcastle) Culture Awards and was shortlisted for Best Performance for Underneath the Floorboards at the 2011 Culture Awards and Performance of the Year (Rapunzel) in the 2012 Awards.

Her latest production, The Night Ball, premièred in July 2013, toured nationally and will be revived in Newcastle in February, Oxford in March and Barnsley in May, whilst the 2012 production, Rapunzel, will tour to Aberdeen, Sadler's Wells, Salford and Warwick in April/May and Edinburgh in September.

As well as her work with balletLORENT, she has produced work for Scottish Dance Theatre, the BalletBoyz and Singapore Dance Theatre, as well as choreography for productions at Newcastle's Northern Stage.
