Net Ticket Site Closed

Online ticket agency Getmetickets.net has been closed down by the Official Receiver at the request of the Department for Trade and Industry. A statement from the Official receiver, posted on the Getmetickets website, says:

The petition to wind up the company will be heard by the court on 22 March 2006. Any updates to the situation will be posted on the Insolvency Service website at www.insolvency.gov.uk/piu.htm as soon as possible. If the company is wound up in due course, details will appear there for creditors to register a claim in the liquidation.

The company traded as a ticket reseller, principally via this website, www.getmetickets.net. When my staff attended the company's premises a large number of tickets were recovered.

The court has ordered that the tickets held by the company should be distributed to customers as far as possible in chronological order having regard to the date the order was placed with the company such that tickets are allocated against the first orders received. My staff are at present sorting through the tickets recovered from the premises and matching them against paid orders. As you will appreciate, this will take some time.

Furthermore, my staff are working to ensure that customers receive the available tickets in a timely manner. We are also being assisted by the credit card processor who have informed the Official Receiver that, if there is a shortfall, they will endeavour to supply tickets to meet orders placed.

The company claimed to be able to supply tickets - at well above face value- for a wide range of fully-booked concerts, festivals, sports events and theatre shows, although its main business would appear to have been pop gigs. At the time it was closed, it was selling tickets for the Rolling Stones at £1,777.

Frequently tickets would only arrive at the last moment of not at all. Two investigations by the BBC TV Watchdog programme highlight cases of buyers having to meet someone at the gig to collect tickets. In some cases no one turned up.
