Schools and professional artists in south Leamington are getting together to stage the first children’s arts festival in the area.

The Arts Active Network comprises Clapham Terrace Primary School, Kingsway Primary School, St Patricks Primary School and Shrubland Street Primary School. Warwick District Council, West Midlands Arts Connect and Coventry’s Warwick Arts Centre are providing financial support.

Teachers and schoolchildren will work together on planning, fundraising, marketing and managing the children’s arts festival which will take place in July 2017.

The Arts Active Network gives children the opportunity to see art and performance at Warwick Arts Centre, make new works of art and share them.

Throughout the project, artists will work actively with both teachers and children to share skills and build confidence in working creatively while Warwick Arts Centre staff will offer training in a range of areas, including marketing, fundraising, festival management and programming.

Clare Mitchell, education officer at Warwick Arts Centre, said, “this is a fantastic opportunity not only to give children the chance to see and make art, but also to give teachers and schools the tools they need to get art into the classroom and then out again, back into the community with a festival that can sustain itself for many years to come.”

The Network is looking for one more primary school in south Leamington to join the project. For more details, contact Clare Mitchell.
