Nottingham-based New Perspectives is to tour Jane Upton’s autobiographical play Finding Nana to village halls and theatre studio spaces during February and March.

Set in a seaside hotel, Finding Nana features Upton travelling back to find her beloved Nana before she forgot who she was. Stacey Evans appears in this one-woman show which is directed by Katie Posner.

The play was first seen at the Pleasance Courtyard at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017.

Upton won the George Devine Award for most promising playwright in 2016 for All the Little Lights. She said, “Finding Nana has a piece of my heart in it. It’s a tale of love and loss and the crippling fear of forgetting.

“It’s a tribute to that specific and amazing relationship you can only really share with a beloved grandparent. I’m so happy and grateful to be sharing our story because I'm sure so many people will relate to it.”

New Perspectives artistic director Jack McNamara said, “Jane is one of the East Midlands region’s truly outstanding new voices and Finding Nana is such a tender and honest piece of work. The reaction from everyone who’s read or experienced it has been overwhelming, so I’m pretty certain audiences on tour will be in for something special.”

Design is by Sara Perks, lighting by Alexandra Stafford, sound by Arun Gosh and AV by Ed Sunman.

Finding Nana opens in the Neville Studio at Nottingham Playhouse from 7 until 10 February and then visits venues in Lincolnshire, York, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Northamptonshire and North Yorkshire. The tour ends at Derby Theatre’s Studio on Saturday 24 March.
