Helping women to get back on their feet: The Core at Corby Cube

Northamptonshire venue The Core at Corby Cube is to run Stand Up for New Starts, a free, six-week course for women looking to get back to the workplace after full-time caring or a period of unemployment.

The course will use a mix of theatre, stand-up comedy and performance techniques to help women get ready for a new start—whether that be a job interview, starting a new venture or returning to the workplace. The two-hour sessions will focus on building confidence, communicating ideas and problem-solving.

Stand Up for New Starts is open to all women over 16 and offers free on-site childcare at every session which will be held at Hazelwood Neighbourhood Centre.

Jo Gordon, chief executive of Northamptonshire Arts Management Trust which includes The Core and Northampton’s Royal and Derngate, said, “as we turn the corner out of the pandemic, there’ll be a whole world of upheaval to be navigated, particularly for women and young mothers who’re likely to be most affected. We’re using creative skills to instil confidence and offer support to help women get back on their feet and back into the workplace.”

The course will begin at 10AM on Tuesday 10 November and will run until 15 December. The course will run again early in 2021 in both Corby and Northampton.
