“International dimension”: the New Vic Theatre

Staffordshire’s New Vic is offering three companies the opportunity to be an associate artist at the theatre-in-the-round for one year from September 2021 as part of Kiln Associates, its artist development scheme.

Successful candidates will each receive £5,000 from the Newcastle-under-Lyme theatre to develop their ideas.

The New Vic is inviting companies to apply for the scheme if they feel they can both benefit from and actively contribute to a relationship with the New Vic and the creativity of Staffordshire and Stoke.

The scheme is open to national as well as regional companies. Kiln Associates will have access to space within the theatre building, advice and support from New Vic staff and opportunities to observe work and rehearsals at the theatre.

New Vic associate director Vicki Amedume who will be leading the project said, "we’re keen that the scheme represents a range of artists in the UK and are encouraging applications from those who are currently underrepresented in the performing arts sector.”

New Vic artistic director Theresa Heskins added, "we originally launched the Kiln Associates programme in 2016 and have worked with a number of companies to support their development, sharing expertise, experience and resources.

“This year we felt strongly that we wanted to open up our associates’ programme further afield. Our location gives us a strong sense of place and increasingly our theatre-making has a national and an international dimension. We feel this is an exciting opportunity for us to help make a meaningful contribution to the recovery of our sector after such an intense year."

The deadline for companies to express their interest is Monday 17 May. Further information is available at the New Vic web site.

The New Vic is also starting in May the Kiln Network, a programme offering talks, advice, inspiration and in-person and virtual gathering places for performance-based creatives and industry professionals.
