New Adventures to Be Resident at Sadler's Wells Matthew Bourne's New Adventures has been invited by Alastair Spalding to become a Resident Company of Sadler's Wells Theatre. Bourne's association with Sadler's Wells goes back to 1992 with the London premiere of AMP's Nutcracker!, Highland Fling in the Lilian Baylis Theatre in 1994 and the World Premiere of Swan Lake in 1995. The relationship with New Adventures has proved even stronger. The Company has had its office base at the theatre since 2002 with regular extended Christmas Seasons there since 2002. Matthew Bourne has been an Associate Artist of Sadler's Wells since 2005, and will retain this status. New Adventures will join Wayne McGregor's Random Dance company as a resident company at the theatre. The new link will be celebrated next year with a major revival of one of Bourne's most popular works, The Car Man, first seen in 2000, When it won the Evening Standard Award for "Musical Event of the Year". It will play a four week season at Sadler's Wells in July 2007, part of an eighteen week tour of the UK, which opens on18th June in Plymouth and plays Cardiff, Nottingham, Milton Keynes, Glasgow, Bradford, Wimbledon, Stoke, Newcastle, Woking, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Salford and Birmingham. The Car Man is loosely based on Bizet's Carmen. The familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy garage/diner in 1960's America where the dreams and passions of a small town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger.
