A Very Different Panto Mixture! Newbury Corn Exchange's panto Jack and the Beanstalk will be rather different this year. Director Martin Sutherland is bringing together an unusual team. The writer will be Roy Hudd, veteran of many pantos (his first was in 1959), who has also written many: the Palace Watford has done one of this shows every year since 1990 and last year his shows could be seen at Greenwich, Barnstaple and Truro. Co-producers will be family entertainment specialists the Hiss and Boo Company. Founded in 1977 by actor/producer Ian Liston, the company has produced many plays and musicals in London's West End (Nunsense, Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband, Corpse! by Gerald Moon, award winning Groucho: A Life in Revue, Double Act, original stage producers of Cluedo (to be revived in 2005) and the original Mr Men Musical) and pantomimes across the country. Alongside these traditionalists, Sutherland has brought in director Cal McCrystal. McCrystal trained as an actor at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and at Ecole Philippe Gaulier; as a classical singer with Claudio Barr in London and David Kelly, head of Scottish Opera School in Glasgow, and has directed over 25 shows including two as director of comedy for world-famous circus troupe Cirque du Soleil, creator/director for physical comedy outfits Spymonkey, Peepolykus, Leikin Loppu and comedians Mel and Sue. Cast as Dame Foxy Trot is David Benson, known for his acclaimed one-man shows Think No Evil of Us: My Life With Kenneth Williams and Starstruck. He will be taking lessons in make-up from seasoned dame Jim McManus who this year will be the Baron. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
