Third King's Cross New Writing Award The Courtyard Theatre is again holding its Kings Cross New Writing Award. Artistic director June Abbott is confident that after the rising acclaim of the award in the previous years and the tremendous success of last years winner, Proving Mr Jennings by James Walker, this year will see a record number of submissions. We hope that the success of James Walker, who has since been commissioned to write for the National Theatre, will encourage more emerging playwrights to send us their work. We offer the chance of winning a full-scale professional production in the heart of London, which is unique for any literary award, said June Abbott, Artistic Director of the Courtyard Theatre. The Courtyard is seeking to further its commitment to the development of new writing by honouring outstanding work by emerging playwrights and offering play development, staged readings and commissions to promising authors. The winning play will be awarded with a four-week run at the Courtyard Theatres home. This includes play development with the Courtyards dramaturg and a production with professional actors, directors and designers. The deadline for submissions is 12th May 2005 and the award winner will be announced in September. Guidelines for Entry:
Full competition rules and conditions can be obtained from the Courtyards website: at www.thecourtyard.org.uk/kingsxwriting.html Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
